If Indrani killed my daughter, she should be hanged, says Siddhartha Das, Sheena Bora's father

Siddhartha Das. Ibnlive imageA week into the increasingly convoluted Sheena Bora murder mystery, her biological father Siddhartha Das has been tracked down and finally spoke up. In a brief interview with Times Now, Das opened up about Indrani Mukerjea, his children, and his relationships with all three of them.

In response to a question about whether he thinks Indrani was capable of killing Sheena, he said it was possible, citing her penchant for the "high life".

“There’s a chance (she did it),” said Das, adding, “She was money-minded of course. (She) always had ambitions for better living and high society.”

In an interview to NDTV, Das said that if Indrani had killed Sheena, "she should be hanged".

Over the course of the interview, he also mentioned that it has been around 26 years since he last spoke to Indrani.

Das said, “Indrani left in 1989, and I never saw her again. Maybe she was not satisfied with my status. I had no job.”

He said he had met her while they were in college, and they had two children together. Describing it as “partly a mistake”, he said, “I was immature; I was not even settled at the time.”

He reiterated that he has never denied that he was the father of Sheena and Mikhail Bora.

“I have never denied being Sheena’s father… I am also Mikhail’s father,” he said, adding that both children were born out of wedlock when he was living with her.

“Whatever they have given in the newspapers is totally wrong — Sheena’s date of birth is 11 February, 1987 and Mikhail’s is 9 September, 1988,” he said.

When asked about why he didn’t try to keep custody of his children, Das said, “The children stayed at my in-laws’ place and they wanted to keep them. I wanted to take care of them but my in-laws never gave me a chance”.

When asked about his relationship with his children, Das said that he had not met Mikhail since he was nine months old (in 1989), and he last spoke to Sheena when she was in Class 10 (circa 2003-2004). “Sheena knew I was her father. She used to tell me that she quarreled regularly with Indrani,” Das said, simultaneously describing the nature of his conversations with his daughter as “very general… How are you? I am fine (types)”.

Over time however, they grew apart. “I didn’t maintain touch with my family because I had no job… I realized I could not maintain the kids with their new (social) status”. And so they drifted apart.

Regarding the murky mystery unravelling at present, it appears Das is as much in the dark as the rest of us.

“I didn’t know she (Shena) was introduced (to people) as Indrani’s sister,” he said, adding, “Sheena told me she had no connection with her mother. But she was regularly in touch with Indrani, and hid it from me.”

Das maintained that the Mumbai police has not contacted him, but he is willing to cooperate with them.

“I am 100 percent ready to take a DNA test,” he asserted.  Whether or not the police takes him up on his offer will become clearer in the coming days.

Meanwhile, Das' wife claimed that she had no knowledge about the past life of her husband — who now lives in Dum Dum on the outskirts of the city.

"I have been married to Das for 16-17 years. I didn't know anything about his past and I have nothing to do with his past," she said.
